While you're learning Lojban, you're going to make mistakes. Making mistakes is a normal part of learning a new skill, and knowing that you made a mistake can even help to remember the right way to say something.

Too often, a mistake can be frustrating--which in turn will eliminate the flow you're experiencing in play. This technique is used to mark a mistake you or someone else was frustrated by making--and to celebrate it.

By celebrating in moments of frustration, we honor that feeling as an essential part of learning Lojban, and then release that tension so we can continue practicing.

How to Use

When you noticed you or another player upset over making a mistake, you can bring attention to it using this technique. Your goal in delivering this technique is to release tension and frustration, and so should be delivered in a manner that brings the player back into the game.

Example

After being asked "ti mo", while a fellow player points at "rokci", you sign (correctly) "that rock", but say (incorrectly) "ti grana". The difference between what you sign and say signals the other players that you've made a mistake. You've made this mistake before, and are frustrated that you made it again. No one else is struggling on this point. This is not fun.

A fellow player exclaims ".i a'usai" (How Fascinating!), and you repeat it, starting your journey back to being engaged by the game.
